ABOUT OUR CLASSES
We offer classes in a range of styles and abilities.
Classes are led by existing Broadway members with previous teaching experience; teachers go through an application process and are reviewed by our committee, as well as having received teacher training.
Classes are generally an hour long; you can expect to do a warmup, stretch, and cool down in class, as well as occasional technique exercises before working on choreography.
All classes are taught 1 dance per semester (Novice classes will learn 1 dance over both semesters), to be later performed in our annual showcase. Participation in the showcase is NOT a requirement for our members, therefore you are welcome to join classes without involvement in the showcase if you wish.
Technique classes will not work towards a showcase dance.
Comfortable sports clothing is recommended to be worn in class. We encourage appropriate dance wear to be worn if you have some (particularly in ballet). There is no required uniform, however merch is often bought and worn in classes and will be available for purchase later into the year!
Classes are held during term-time (including reading weeks), commencing on the 30th September.
The first 2 weeks will be pay as you go ‘Trial Classes’, this is the perfect opportunity to trial as many classes as you’d like before signing up for the semester!
£2 members (per class) £4 non-members (per class)
Block classes for Semester 1 (14/10-15/12) will then be available to purchase on the SU website at a first come first served basis on the 13th October.
*You are required to have a Broadway membership before purchasing any block classes.

Competition
Competition
Competition
Broadway Dance Society has a highly successful dance competition team which is selected through an audition process. We compete against other University dance teams in 3 competitions usually, including our own ‘Cardiff Uni Dance Competition’. Those on our competition team must be willing to commit to weekly class(es), additional rehearsals, and at least 3 weekends per year (sem 2) for travelling and competing. An extra comp fee applies.
Last year we had a very successful comp season racking up a total of 17 awards for Broadway Dance alone, as well as being awarded ‘Outstanding Achievement’ at the SU’s SVMA’s Awards night. We are looking forward to another amazing year.
If you have any questions regarding comp, please contact Niamh Doyle (Vice President Comp)/ Isabel Sabas (Comp Co-ordinator) or DM our Instagram or Facebook pages.
This year we will be holding auditions for the following teams:
Intermediate Ballet
Advanced Ballet
Intermediate Tap
Advanced Tap
Intermediate Jazz

We look for confident, technical, and experienced performers who can commit to weekly classes.
Everyone is welcome to attend auditions, these will be held on over 2 days Saturday 12th October and Sunday 13th October. Look out for more info on our socials.
We host a variety of exciting events throughout the year.

Socials
Socials
Broadway hosts regular weekly socials. Our Wednesday socials are always lots of fun, dressing up in themed fancy dress each week. We usually meet first, before heading to the SU’s infamous YOLO night. If the night life scene isn’t quite for you, not to worry; we also hold regular sober socials which in the past have included coffee mornings, study sessions and a trip to winter wonderland.
Socials are a great opportunity to meet new friends and have some fun!
The first social will be on Wednesday 25th September for Returners. New members will be welcomed to socials commencing Wednesday 2nd October. There will also be a Broadway Freshers Ice Breaker event, date TBC.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our Social Sec Meg Scappaticci for any questions or DM our Instagram or Facebook pages.
